Zyloprim is used for enzyme blocking. It helps to lower high levels of uric acid in your body by reducing its production. It is applied for treating gout and certain types of kidney stones by preventing high uric acid levels in patients who receive cancer chemotherapy. Cancer cells that are destroyed with therapy release large amounts of uric acid into the bloodstream.

HOW TO USE ZYLOPRIM:

It's an oral medication. You are to take it once a day every day. It is recommended to take the drug after a meal to reduce stomach upset, or as prescribed by your doctor or health care professional. To avoid forming of kidney stones it is strongly recommended to take a glass of water with a dose and other 8 glasses of water during the day. If you are on restricted fluid intake, consult your doctor for further instructions. Ask your doctor of how to reduce acidity in your urine (e.g., avoid large amounts of ascorbic acid or Vitamin C). Dosage depends on your medical condition and response to therapy. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. It is highly recommended to take the drug at the same time every day. Several weeks may pass before you feel effect if you are treating gout. You may experience an increase in the number of gouty attacks for several weeks to months after starting this medicine while the body rids itself of excess uric acid. Zyloprim is not a pain reliever. Your prescribed medicines for gout attacks will help you to relieve pain (e.g., ibuprofen, colchicine, indomethacin) as prescribed by your doctor.

ZYLOPRIM SIDE EFFECTS:

You may experience such zyloprim side effects as diarrhea, unusual taste, stomach upset, nausea, acute gouty attacks, or drowsiness before you organism to adjust to the medication. Inform your doctor in the case of appearing or worsening some of the side effects. Don't forget that the medicine has been prescribed because the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Inform your doctor immediately if you have some serious side effects, such as: easy bleeding/bruising, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, signs of infection (e.g., fever, persistent sore throat), persistent nausea/vomiting/lack of appetite, change in the amount of urine, unusual tiredness, severe stomach/abdominal pain, unusual weight loss. Very rarely the medication may cause serious (possibly fatal) allergic reactions. If you experience any of the symptoms: hives, itching, skin rash, swelling (especially of the lips or mouth), blood in the urine, unusual eye redness/pain, dizziness, fever and chills, muscle/joint pain, pain when urinating, trouble breathing then stop taking the drug and consult your doctor immediately. Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you experience some not mentioned zyloprim side effects.

ZYLOPRIM PRECAUTIONS:

Tell your doctor or health care professional if you have any allergic reaction. Your doctor or pharmacist must know your medical conditions, especially if you have such problems as liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, hypertension, unusual diets (e.g., starvation diets). This drug may make you drowsy. Be attentive while carrying out actions requiring high attention, such, for example, as driving or using machinery. Limit alcohol because it lowers the effectiveness of the drug. This medication is not advised during pregnancy and can be taken only if it's really necessary. Discuss all pro and contra with your doctor. This medication occurs into breast milk. If you take zyloprim consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

ZYLOPRIM INTERACTIONS:

Your doctor or pharmacist may already be acquainted with any possible zyloprim interactions. Do not start, stop or change the dosage of any medicine consulting the doctor. It is forbidden to take the drug with such medicine as didanosine because of very strong interaction. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: certain antibiotics (ampicillin, amoxicillin), azathioprine, "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin), chlorpropamide, mercaptopurine, sulfinpyrazone, cyclosporine, certain asthma drugs (aminophylline, theophylline), "water pills" (e.g., thiazide diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide). Inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking.

NOTES:

You are to be examined laboratory and/or medically regularly (e.g., uric acid blood levels, liver and kidney function tests in certain patients, complete blood count) should be performed periodically to monitor your progress or check for side effects. Ask your doctor or health care professional for more information. You may benefit from a special diet, if you are taking zyloprim to treat kidney stones. Try not to miss a dose, but if it happened, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double change the dose.
