Nexium belongs to the class of proton pump inhibitors (PPI). This medication used for treating acid-related stomach and throat (esophagus) problems (e.g., acid reflux or GERD, erosive esophagitis). The principle of its work consists in blocking acid production in the stomach, what may result in relieving symptoms such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing, persistent cough, and trouble sleeping. It can also prevent serious acid damage to your digestive system (e.g., ulcers, cancer of the esophagus). Nexium may also be used in combination with antibiotics to treat certain types of intestinal ulcers caused by bacterial infection.

HOW TO USE NEXIUM:

It is an oral medication. Apply nexium one time a day (with or without food) or as directed by your doctor. You should swallow this medication whole without crushing, chewing, or breaking the pills. If you have difficulty swallowing this medication whole, the tablet may be placed in a half glass (120 ml) of non-carbonated water. Stir until the tablet(s) dissolve and the pellets are released from the tablet(s). Drink the mixture immediately (or within 30 minutes). Rinse the glass with an additional half glass of water and drink the contents to make sure the entire dose is taken. Do not chew the liquid/medication mixture or prepare a supply in advance. Doing so may destroy the drug and/or increase side effects. If needed, antacids may be taken along with this medication. The dosage of nexium and length of treatment depends on your medical condition and response to therapy. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take nexium at the same times each day. Continue to take this medication for the prescribed length of treatment even if you are feeling better. Notify your doctor in the case of worsening or persisting your conditions.
