Furosemide is applied for treating high blood pressure, what may help to prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. HOW TO USE FUROSEMIDE:

FUROSEMIDE SIDE EFFECTS:

You may experience headache, blurred vision, loss of appetite, dizziness, lightheadedness, stomach upset, diarrhea, or constipation as your body adjusts to the medication. Don't forget that your doctor has prescribed this medication because the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. If you experience such unusual but serious side effects as muscle cramps or weakness, numbness/tingling of the arms/legs, ringing in the ears, hearing loss, confusion, severe dizziness, drowsiness, unusual dry mouth or thirst, nausea or vomiting, fast/irregular heartbeat, unusual decrease in the amount of urine, fainting, seizures, signs of infection (e.g., fever, persistent sore throat), easy bleeding or bruising, stomach/abdominal pain, persistent nausea/vomiting, yellowing of eyes/skin inform your doctor immediately. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: swelling, dizziness, rash, itching, trouble breathing. If you notice other furosemide side effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

FUROSEMIDE PRECAUTIONS:

Tell your doctor if you have any allergic reaction. Your doctor or pharmacist must know your medical conditions, especially if you have such problems as severe kidney disease (inability to make urine or anuria). Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: untreated mineral imbalance (e.g., sodium, potassium), kidney disease, liver disease, gout, lupus. If you have diabetes, furosemide may affect your blood sugar levels. It is necessary to control your blood level and inform your doctor about the results of your observations. If you experience such symptoms of high blood pressure as increased thirst/urination your doctor may need to adjust your anti-diabetic medication or diet. This drug may reduce the potassium levels in your blood. Ask your doctor about adding potassium to your diet. A potassium supplement may be prescribed by your doctor. Try to spend less time at the sun if the remedy made you sensitive to it. This drug may make you dizzy, drowsy, or cause blurred vision. Be attentive while engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. Try to get up slowly to reduce risk of giddiness or lightheadedness. Elder people are more sensitive to the side effect of this medication, especially dizziness. Furosemide is not recommended for use during pregnancy. This drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

FUROSEMIDE INTERACTIONS:

Your doctor or pharmacist may already be acquainted with any possible furosemide interactions. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first. In combination with such drug as cisapride, ethacrynic acid this medication may result in very serious furosemide interaction. Notify your doctor if you are taking any of the mentioned above medications. Your doctor should know about all the medications you are taking, especially of: other drugs that can affect hearing/balance (e.g., aminoglycoside antibiotics such as gentamicin, tobramycin), amphotericin B, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, indomethacin), large doses of aspirin and aspirin-like drugs (salicylates), cholestyramine, cisplatin, colestipol, corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), digoxin, lithium, sucralfate. Look through the labels on all your medications to find pout if they contain ingredients that could increase your blood pressure or swelling (edema). Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of those products.

NOTES:

Do not share furosemide with others. Ask your doctor what lifestyle changes may promote effectiveness of this medication. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., kidney and liver function tests, uric acid, cholesterol levels, blood mineral levels such as potassium, ) should be performed periodically to monitor your progress or check for side effects.
