Flomax is applied for treating the symptoms of a prostate gland condition called BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia, also known as enlarged prostate). Flomax belongs to the class of alpha-blockers. Take the first dose at bedtime to minimize the chances of getting dizzy or fainting. After the first dose, take your regularly scheduled dose at the same time each day. To make this remedy more effective take it regularly. Swallow the tablet whole without crushing or chewing it, because it may result in side effects. Inform your doctor in the case of worsening or persisting your conditions in 4 weeks.

FLOMAX SIDE EFFECTS:

You may experience trouble sleeping, dizziness, unusual weakness, runny nose, or difficulty ejaculating. Inform your doctor immediately in the case of worsening or persisting any of the side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious flomax side effects. If you experience such unusual but serious side effects as fainting, vision changes, fast heartbeat notify your doctor immediately. In the unlikely event you have a painful or prolonged erection lasting 4 or more hours, stop using this drug and seek immediate medical attention, or permanent problems could occur. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: swelling, dizziness, rash, itching, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Do not forget that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of the flomax side effects.

FLOMAX PRECAUTIONS:

Tell your doctor if you have any allergic reaction. Your doctor or pharmacist must know your medical conditions, especially if you have such problems as prostate cancer, blood pressure problems. Try to get up slowly to avoid giddiness or lightheadedness. Also, when you first start taking this drug, avoid situations where you may be injured if you faint. This drug may make you dizzy. Be attentive while driving, using machinery, or doing any activity that requires alertness. Limit alcoholic beverages. Your doctor should know that you are taking flomax before you have surgery. Elder people are more sensitive to the side effects of this medication, especially dizziness. This medication is not recommended for use in women or children.

FLOMAX INTERACTIONS:

Your doctor or pharmacist may already be acquainted with any possible flomax interactions. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first. Your doctor should know about all the medications you are taking, especially of: drugs for male erectile problems (e.g., sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil), other alpha-blocker drugs (e.g., doxazosin, prazosin), high blood pressure drugs, "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin), drugs affecting liver enzymes that remove flomax from your body (such as cimetidine, azole antifungals including ketoconazole, macrolide antibiotics including erythromycin, rifamycins including rifabutin, St. John's wort, certain anti-seizure medicines including carbamazepine).

NOTES:

Do not share flomax with others. Keep closely your doctor's prescriptions. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., prostate exams, prostate-specific antigen or PSA) should be performed periodically to monitor your progress or check for the flomax side effects. Ask your doctor for more information.
