Actos is remedy aimed for diabetics (thiazolidinedione-type, also called "glitazones"). HOW TO USE ACTOS:

Take actos by orally with or without meal depending on the way prescribed by your doctor or health care professional. Dosage depends on your medical condition and reaction to cure, and if you are taking other anti-diabetic drugs. Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Remember to achieve more effective result take the tablets regularly. It's desirable to do it at the same times each day. Observe blood glucose levels regularly. ACTOS SIDE EFFECTS:

You can observe sore throat, muscle pain, or tooth problems. In the case of persisting or worsening any of the side effects inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately. Inform your doctor immediately in the case appearing any of these unusual but serious actos side effects: swelling of the hands/feet, trouble breathing, unusual fatigue, unexplained rapid weight gain, fast/pounding heartbeat, changes in menstrual cycles, new/worsening vision problems (e.g., color or night vision problems), bone fracture, dark urine, yellowing of eyes/skin, persistent nausea/vomiting, stomach/abdominal pain. People who take the drug usually don't experience low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), but it can happen if you don't consume enough calories (from food, drink, etc.). The symptoms can be the following: chills, cold sweat, dizziness, drowsiness, shaking, weakness, headache, fainting, rapid heart rate, tingling of the hands or feet, or hunger. Intake of glucose tablets or gel is for good to treat low blood sugar. If you don't have at your disposal these reliable forms of glucose, eat a quick source of sugar, for example table sugar, honey, or candy, or drink a glass of orange juice or non-diet soda to quickly raise your blood sugar level. ACTOS PRECAUTIONS:

This medication has some contraindication. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes), very high blood glucose (diabetic ketoacidosis), newly diagnosed or worsening heart failure (acute congestive heart failure), active liver disease. Your doctor should be aware of all your health conditions before prescribing the medication, especially if you suffer from heart disease (e.g., chronic congestive heart failure), liver problems, fluid in your lungs, swelling (edema), anemia, eye (retina) problems. Blurred vision, dizziness, or drowsiness due to extremely low or high blood sugar levels may occur. Avoid activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery while taking the drug. Limit alcohol. Such conditions as fever, infection, injury or surgery complicate control your blood sugar. Consult your doctor regularly because change in your medication may be required. This medication may increase the risk of bone fracture (e.g., upper arm, hand, foot, ankle) in female patients. Actos is not advised during pregnancy and can be taken only if it's really necessary. ACTOS INTERACTIONS:

Your doctor or pharmacist may already be acquainted with any possible actos interactions. Do not start, stop or change the dosage of any medicine consulting the doctor. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: other anti-diabetic medications (e.g., insulin, metformin, or sulfonylureas such as glyburide), herbal/natural products (e.g., ginseng, fenugreek, gymnema), drugs affecting liver enzymes that remove actos from your body (e.g., gemfibrozil, rifamycins including rifampin). NOTES:

Try not to miss a dose, but if it happened, take it as soon as possible. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Only your doctor or health care professional can change or double your dose of actos. It is recommended you attend a diabetes education program to understand diabetes and all the important aspects of its treatment including meals/diet, personal hygiene, exercise, medications and getting regular eye, foot and medical exams. Lifestyle changes that help promote healthy bones include increasing weight-bearing exercise, stopping smoking, eating well-balanced meals containing adequate calcium and vitamin D, and limiting alcohol. Consult your doctor to see if you need to take calcium/vitamin D supplements and discuss lifestyle changes that might benefit you. Keep all medical appointments. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., liver and kidney function tests, fasting blood glucose, hemoglobin A1c, complete blood counts, CPK levels) will be performed to monitor for side effects and response to therapy. Regularly check your blood or urine for sugar, as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
